Pamekasan Residents Are Concerned About Salty Drinking Water, UM Surabaya KKN Students Create This Tool

Dozens of group 30 KKN students at the University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya (UM Surabaya) have completed their Community Service Program (KKN) at a location in Brenta Tinggi Village, Pamekasan Regency.

The group chaired by Syarif Moh Nur Hidayat from the Civil Engineering Study Program succeeded in creating Appropriate Technology Innovation Products needed by the community. The innovative product, named Fildesta, was successfully tested at the KKN location and was successfully used by the community to empower fresh water.

Syarif said, before he was deployed to the location with the team, his group had conducted in-depth research regarding the problems that existed at that location.

"After going into the field, the most crucial problem and the people's complaints are about salty drinking water, so to get fresh water you have to keep buying it," said Syarif.

According to him, the innovation created by the team will be a tool for distilling salt water into fresh water with a filtration and distillation system. The group of 30 also hopes that the innovations made can be used on a large scale so that villagers can enjoy fresh water without having to use the PDAM.

Syarif also explained that the most important benefit of water filtration is filtering water to keep it clean, safe and fit for daily consumption. Then the benefit of the distillation tool is to boil impurities to extract the desired substance with the aim that the water also reaches a safe pH and does not contain harmful bacteria.

In his statement, Syarif also explained the work tools in the following way:

1. Pour salt or marsh water into the filtration device

2. Filtration process +10 minutes

3. Salty or brackish water flows into the distillation facsimile equipment

4. Water filling process for distillation +30 minutes

5. Turn on the water heater

6. Boiling process at 97% Celsius for 1 hour

7. After + 1 hour, boiling water vapor will flow through the pipe to the steam cooling process and turn into 0% gram fresh water with a PH of 6.5

8. Fresh water will hatch after the cooling process and is ready for consumption.
