Rector's Speech

Our present world civilization is characterized by three important aspects. First of all, we see that the world's demographics are in an alarming state. Related to this problem, existing data proves that our earth has accommodated 6.5 billion people and by 2050 it is expected to reach 10 billion people. Second, the modern world has developed into an unimaginable energy crisis stage. The world currently consumes non-renewable energy in an amount that makes the world's future in the dark shadow of the environment. Third, the current global economy is an economy based on gigantic structures and unreal derivative economic dynamics which in some cases causes turbulence and uncertainty.

The world's universities are now in a position to respond to this global challenge. Based on this spirit, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya is committed to finding solutions to global challenges, developing education for future leaders and strengthening their academic performance. Muhammadiyah University Surabaya is an innovative institution, as we are structured and organized, as well as our adaptation to global changes.

Muhammadiyah University Surabaya has a rich history of academic excellence and contributions to both Indonesian society and the international community. The key to our success lies not only in the dedication of our teachers and staff, but also in the enthusiasm of the young students and researchers.

In the coming years, Muhammadiyah University Surabaya, which has gone through several substantial reforms, hopes to become a modern, multicultural and international-class campus. Among the several strategic steps are full commitment to the internationalization process, increasing research funding commitments, increasing international research publications while not forgetting environmental elements. University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya has increased research collaboration with international partners, and hopes to increase the number of foreign lecturers and students in the future.

In conclusion, whatever your interests, your goals or your ambitions, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya has many things to offer, from the excellent quality of our study programs, learning and research opportunities, to the facilities we provide. We believe that important principles in the research aspect at Muhammadiyah University lead to building relationships between elements of civil society, increasing international contributions, seeking social sustainability in line with the environment, and commitment to global citizenship.

Therefore, we believe that the bigger our work, the bigger our contribution to the world.
